We are now in the development stage of putting together a series of Continuing Education opportunities. All courses are taught by certified, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic instructors. If you have specific courses you are seeking, please call Rozella at the school during normal business hours: 717-293-9698 Massage for Seniors: taught by Sharon Puszko of Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute November 7, 8th and 9th, 2008, the Lancaster School of Massage will host this weekend workshop. It offers 17 CE hours for certified massage therapists and qualifies for the Level 1 Certificate in Geriatric Massage. By helping participants gain insight into meaningful work with the elderly, the therapist who likes to work with seniors is put on the path to a massage career that is emotionally satisfying without being physically draining. The workshop features these topics: 1. Physiological, psychological & sociological aspects of aging. 2. Client assessment, cautions & contraindications. Psychological aspects of contact with the elderly, attention to detail in the assessment of the older client. 3. Modification of standard massage techniques and the development of methods to suit each client's special needs. Participants are encouraged to develop clinical reasoning in their first hands-on phase of the presentation. 4. Practical hands-on work with older people. 5. How to establish a Geriatric Massage practice. Topics include: marketing to senior facilities, referral sources, and active seniors in the community at large. The cost of this workshop is $320 with a $50 deposit required to reserve your place. The deposit gets deducted from your total. The schedule is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday evening with Saturday and Sunday sessions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sharon Puszko is a graduate of the University of California with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biology. After teaching Biology and English in Europe, Asia, Central America and the Easter United States, Dr. Puszko made a career change into the wellness industry in 1986 by becoming a massage therapist. All continuing education classes are held at the Lancaster School of Massage. Deposits are non-refundable and must accompany a completed Continuing Education Registration Form. Forms can be printed it out and mailed, submitted in person, or for those technically savvy individuals, emailed. Deposits will apply toward the total cost of the course with the balance due prior to the first day of class. if you do not receive a confirmation letter and receipt within 30 days of submittal, please contact us immediately.
